- Story Text: The level of water in parts of flood-hit Odisha state is receding, however there is no visible change in the situation with the farms and houses still remaining flooded.
Water from the overflowing rivers had entered villages causing floods, submerging residential areas and damaging property and crops.
Locals in Puri town faced challenge in commuting and said they were using boats to move in areas with knee-deep water on Wednesday (August 24).
"The water level was high for about 10-12 days but now it has receded a bit. However, we are facing problems in commuting (by foot) so, we are using boats. We cook food at some other place and eat together," said Pabitra Kumar.
Meanwhile, Chief of India's central Madhya Pradesh state, Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited the flood-hit areas and met locals in Vidisha town to take stock of the situation.
Earlier this month, the weather office had predicted that India was likely to receive an average amount of rain in August and September.
Seasonal monsoon rains from June to September cause deaths and mass displacement across South Asia every year, but they also deliver more than 70% of India's rainfall and are crucial for farmers. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
