- Story Text:Married Hindu women in India observed the festival of 'Karwa Chauth' on Thursday (October 13) for the long life of their spouses.
Women dressed up in colourful attires, wearing bangles, vermilion, 'heena', anklet and other ornaments celebrated the auspicious occasion with gaiety and fervour.
After sighting of the Moon, they offered prayers and drank a glass of water.
"When I think that this fast will help my husband live longer, then it feels like a celebration," said a married woman, Nivedita Narula.
'Karva Chauth' is a centuries-old tradition, in which married Indian women fast for the day to pray for their spouse's good health and success. They wake up before dawn to begin a fast at sunrise, and do not eat or drink until she sees the moon and her husband through a sieve in the evening. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
