- Story Text: The second partial solar eclipse of 2022 graced the skies across the Middle East on Tuesday (October 25), as people and astronomy aficionados gathered in awe to observe the phenomenon.
People in Iraq, Syria, the UAE and Egypt were able to witness the moon as it moved between the sun and earth just enough to create a mesmerising crescent sun effect.
"The people who have this discipline (astronomy) as a hobby, or the specialists, are few. So most people do not have telescopes or special equipment to observe the sun. We provided them for free during this astronomical event, so that any person who observes does not use non specialized equipment that could harm their vision," said Mohammed Muslim Akeel, who set up several telescopes in Basra's Farahadi street.
People were urged not to look directly at the sun during the eclipse without proper eyewear to avoid hurting their eyes.
The eclipse was seen at its best in northeast Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and western Asia, because of the time-zone difference.
