- Story Text:'Tiny Doll House,' a store in New York City, is getting ready for the holidays.
The front windows are transformed from Thanksgiving to Christmas.
Dolls are singing carols and Santa is ready to visit a doll house.
“The holiday season is our busiest,†said Leslie Edelman, co-owner of Tiny Doll House.
Edelman stocks up miniatures from more than 500 artists in the world.
From one of a kind for collectors to everyday items for children and beginners.
“Dogs are $9, some of the cats are $3.50," said Edelman. "We have merchandise varying from $3 to all the way up.â€
For example, a handmade Christmas sled with Santa at the store's window costs collectors $2,200.
The most expensive miniature at the store is an English regency-style table for $2,700 dollars.
This shop imports doll houses from England, but also has a workshop downstairs to make their own doll houses.
The price tag for a house starts from $600 unpainted all the way up to $4,600 with lights.
Edelman started his business more than 30 years ago.
He first made a doll house for his niece, and it became his hobby that turned into a full-blown business.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he had to close the store, but he noticed demand grew during that time.
“I think during the pandemic, when people were in lockdown, it gave them more of a sense of ‘home’ and being at home," said Edelman. "I think that the idea of a doll house, or a little pastry shop, or whatever became more of a realization of their ideas and wanting to do something while they were stuck at home.â€
After sequestering for so long, collectors and children are now able to enjoy the “normal'' holiday seasons with their Christmas-themed doll houses.
