- Story Text: Inspired by the ancient Egyptian civilization, TUTERA, an Egyptian company, in cooperation with Cube consultants, an architectural visionary studio, revealed the launch of METATUT, the first Egyptian virtual city on the Metaverse.
The idea of the city depends on an imaginary assumption, that king Tutankhamun came back to life in 2022 to complete what he dreamed to accomplish in Egypt, but this time through the virtual world.
“After the 100-year anniversary of the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb, we thought of establishing a platform that enables people to visit and interact. They can interact by watching the ancient Egyptian civilization, listening to historical stories, and touring the city,†Dr. Somaya Bahy Eldin, the vice president of TUTERA company said.
The project, which is the first of its kind in Egypt, according to TUTERA CEO, was first announced on the 4th of November 2022, to mark the 100-year anniversary of the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun.
“As the first company to think of this idea in Egypt, we believe that we are not lagging behind the world in terms of technology,†Bahy Eldin added.
In METATUT, visitors can travel on a journey through time and space, learn about Egyptian history, entertain, and interact with others in the virtual space.
The valley of the kings, the sun chamber, Akhenaten palace, and the magical melody chamber, these are the 4 currently opened spaces in METATUT, while Nefertiti palace and its glory hall will be launched soon, according to Khalid Radwan, the executive manager of METATUT design studio.
Visitors can explore the world of METATUT not only by using VR headsets, but also through laptops, tablets, and mobiles.
Egypt’s “boy king†Tutankhamun has gripped imaginations since his tomb was discovered in 1922. He lived in turbulent times and died, of causes still disputed, in about 1322 B.C. at around 18, having reigned for nine years.
