  • Story Text: Fans of soccer star Pele traveled to his hometown Tres Corações after his death on Thursday (December 29) at age 82.
    Pele, whose given name was Edson Arantes do Nascimento, was born in Tres Corações, or Three Hearts, on Oct. 23, 1940.
    It was there where Pele learned soccer from his father, a semi-professional player whose promising career was derailed by a knee injury.
    On Friday (December 30) his fans visited ‘Casa Pele’, a recreation of Pele’s childhood home, built based on the memories of his mother and uncle.
    Fan Rafael Gomes told Reuters he traveled to Tres Corações to visit the star’s home as a way to get closer to him and to display some flags depicting the Brazilian player made by members of soccer fan club Torcida Brazuca.
    A mass in honour of Pele was also held in the church where he was baptized.
