- Story Text: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced nominations on January 24 for the 95th Academy Awards.
The following is a list of nominees for the actress in a leading role category:
Cate Blanchett- "Tár"
Ana De Armas - "Blonde"
Andrea Riseborough - "To Leslie"
Michelle Williams - "The Fabelmans"
Michelle Yeoh - "Everything Everywhere All at Once"
Michelle Yeoh won the award for best actress in a musical/comedy motion picture at the Golden Globes for her leading role in “Everything Everywhere All At Once†on January 10. The film tells the story of a Chinese Immigrant, “Evelyn Wang,†who is tasked with saving the world by connecting will different versions of herself throughout the multiverse.
"You know, when you do your movie with the best intentions with as much love and collaboration, family comes together and then once it is all done and you put it out to the world,†Yeoh told Reuters at the Golden Globes. “There is no control of how it will be received."
Cate Blanchett won the BAFTA for best actress for her role in "TÃR". In the drama, she plays Lydia Tar, a gay conductor of a Berlin orchestra whose career comes tumbling down due to an abuse scandal.
Michelle Williams plays “Mitzi" in Steven Spielberg's semi-autobiographical movie "The Fabelmans". The story centers around “Sammy Fabelman,†a young man who falls in love with movies after his parents take him to see "The Greatest Show on Earth".
Ana De Armas stars as famed actress Marilyn Monroe in the fictional take "Blonde", based on the 2000 novel written by Joyce Carol Oates.
Andrea Riseborough takes on the role of “Leslie†in "To Leslie." A film about a single mother from West Texas who wins the lottery but squanders all the money within a few years of receiving it.
Winners will be revealed on March 12 in Los Angeles.
