- Story Text: Irish rockers U2 have scored their 11th UK number 1 album with their new record "Songs of Surrender".
This is the first time in nearly 15 years that the band, made up of Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr., have made it to number one in the British album charts. They last topped the charts with their 2009 studio album "No Line On the Horizon".
The achievement means they now tie with the late super star David Bowie on the list of most official UK number 1 albums and are getting close to the top three - The Beatles (15 number 1 albums) Robbie Williams (14) and Elvis Presley (13).
"Songs of Surrender" features re-imagined versions of 40 U2 songs. The album, released on March 17, was produced by The Edge and recorded during the Covid-19 pandemic.
On the UK singles chart, Miley Cyrus continues her domination, with her hit song "Flowers", topping the charts for the tenth consecutive week.
According to the Official Charts company "Flowers" is now the longest-running number one single by a female solo artist this decade so far, overtaking Olivia Rodrigo's "drivers licence", which enjoyed the number one spot for nine weeks.
