VARIOUS OF NISSEN POSING WITH DIAMOND (SOUNDBITE) (English) SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT FOR THE LUXURY DIVISION AT SOTHEBY'S, FRANK EVERETT, SAYING: "10.57 carats of a fancy, vivid, purplish pink diamond. It is the rarest color, the most intensely saturated color I've ever seen. It's a cushion shape, and it's also internally flawless. So the equation adds up to far more than the sum of its parts because when you see it in person, you can see how special the color is and how incredibly even and rich the saturation is. It's not like any other diamond I've ever seen." VARIOUS OF NISSEN POSING WITH DIAMOND (SOUNDBITE) (English) SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT FOR THE LUXURY DIVISION AT SOTHEBY'S, FRANK EVERETT, SAYING: "The modifier of that touch of purple in the pink diamond makes it richer and pinker if you will. Maybe it doesn't make much sense, but the purple makes it even more pink and then the saturation is so even you just don't see any light or dark spots. It is nothing but that expanse of flawless pink diamond all the way to the edges of that beautiful cushion outline. It's incredible, 10.57 carats, and we expect it to fetch more than $35 million." VARIOUS OF NISSEN POSING WITH DIAMOND (SOUNDBITE) (English) SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT FOR THE LUXURY DIVISION AT SOTHEBY'S, FRANK EVERETT, SAYING: "You can't underestimate the rarity of coming across a stone this clear and this intense or vivid in terms of the color at this size, this is almost unheard of, to cross over the 10-carat mark is incredible to find something internally flawless, and this beautifully saturated." - Story Text:A dazzling pink diamond, described as the most vivid pink diamond to ever come to market, could fetch more than $35 million when it goes under the hammer in New York on June 8, auction house Sotheby's said in New York on Monday (March 27).
"It's called 'The Eternal Pink,' and for good reason," said Frank Everett, senior vice president for the luxury division at Sotheby's. "10.57 carats of a fancy, vivid, purplish pink diamond. It is the rarest color, the most intensely saturated color I've ever seen. It's a cushion shape, and it's also internally flawless."
Everett said the diamond's pink and purple hues make it unlike any other diamond he's ever seen.
"The equation adds up to far more than the sum of its parts because when you see it in person, you can see how special the color is and how incredibly even and rich the saturation is," he said. "The purple makes it even more pink and then the saturation is so even you just don't see any light or dark spots. It is nothing but that expanse of flawless pink diamond all the way to the edges of that beautiful cushion outline. We expect it to fetch more than $35 million."
Pink diamonds are incredibly rare, according to Everett.
"You can't underestimate the rarity of coming across a stone this clear and this intense or vivid in terms of the color at this size, this is almost unheard of, to cross over the 10-carat mark is incredible to find something internally flawless and this beautifully saturated," he said. "It's everything and more."
The 23.78-carat rough diamond, which yielded "The Eternal Pink," was mined by De Beers at the Damtshaa mine in Botswana in 2019. After six months, the 10.57-carat "The Eternal Pink" cushion cut diamond emerged.
Ahead of the auction, "The Eternal Pink" will be in Hong Kong from April 1 through April 7 in a public exhibition to coincide with Sotheby's 50th anniversary in Asia.
