- Story Text: More than 14,000 people visited the Mutianyu section of China's Great Wall north of Beijing on Sunday (April 30), the second day of the country's five-day Labour Day holiday, local media reported.Â
Visitors crowded together to snap photographs and enjoy the view.
“It’s magnificent†Xuan Xu, a 36-year-old man from Sichuan province who was visiting with his family told Reuters, adding that the overall experience was worth it despite the huge crowds.
Passenger travel on the first day of China's Labour Day holiday surged 151.8% from the same day last year, state broadcaster CCTV reported on Saturday (April 29).
The number of air, road, waterway and railway trips rose to 56.99 million on the first day of the holiday that runs through Wednesday, CCTV said.
Tickets to some popular tourism sites in China had almost sold out during the holiday. Tickets for Beijing's Badaling Great Wall sold out for May 1 and 2.
