- Story Text: Country music icons Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks will be hosting the annual ACM (Academy of Country Music) Awards live on Thursday (May 11).
Parton hosted the show in 2022 and told Reuters in an interview that she wants to avoid being over-rehearsed with Brooks in his first time hosting an award show.
"You know, really, you don't want to overdo it," said Parton, adding "We've got the script and we like to keep that kind of magic to it. When you're on stage we want to keep it kind of new and if we rehearsed a whole bunch of stuff, it wouldn't have that spontaneity that you always want on stage and we're both these kind of fools, by nature. We like to just kind of wing it and have fun."
Brooks told Reuters that the pressure is off him, not being either a performer or a nominee.
However, he is looking forward to introducing Parton as she debuts the song 'World on Fire' off her upcoming 'Rockstar' album.
"It's about the times that we're living in," said Parton. "It says 'Liar, liar, world's on fire, what you going to do when it all burns down? Fire, fire, burning higher, but we still got time to turn it all around'. It's kind of an anthem. It's just talking about all the different things," she added.
Despite addressing current issues, Parton and Brooks both want artists to think twice about delivering political messages when receiving their awards.
Brooks said, "I've always been told 'Don't tell people what to do. Just tell them what you do' and that's it and they choose what they want to do but the whole thing about is it's inclusive. That's it. Let's not leave anybody outside the ball, let's don't, if someone starts talking that we don't want to hear, don't shut them up. Let's have the conversation. Let's love one another, let's show empathy and let's move forward together instead of staying nowhere divided."
The awards show will be airing live on Amazon for the second year, going out to over 240 countries around the world.
"Yeah, well they've got more money than most people and they're willing to spend it. They're willing to like publicize it and this is streaming all over the world so we're really excited we're covering so much territory," said Parton.
This year, HARDY leads the nominations with seven nods, followed by Lainey Wilson with six and Kane Brown, Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert and Cole Swindell all with five.
Parton said, "I think it's great that we got a good mix on this show with some of the brand new ones and some of the middle ones and then the old codgers like us."
The AMC Awards will air at 7pm ET/4pm PT (2300 gmt) on May 11 from the Ford Center at the Star in Frisco, Texas.
