Summary:Looking sun-tanned and remarkably fit at the age of 76, Spain's General Francisco Franco took the salute at a big military parade in Madrid on June 1 1969, to mark the 30th anniversary of the end of the Spanish civil war. The Spanish leader stood to attention for nearly two hours as some 14,000 troops and one thousand armoured vehicles filed past the saluting base. Also present was Prince Juan Carlos, who was to become King after Franco's death in 1975.
