With manpower we would need at least 100-150 workers, while now, the factory is operated by 25 employees only, just to supervise but not to interfere with production or anything else.â€

- Story Text: A robot-operated factory for construction materials opened for experimental operation in the Iraqi city of Basra, in a bid to produce high-quality products for local consumption and exports.
The factory, using fifth generation robots, will produce some 16 kinds of adhesive chemicals with an annual production capacity of about 400,000 tonnes, according to the owners.
By depending on these robots, the factory director hopes it can save time and limit mistakes in production.
“The robots' work is to mix materials and add chemicals at certain points (of production) where errors cannot be made,†Director of the factory, Mohammad al-Moussawi, said.
“Robots operate the correct settings when mixing, and that allows for the material to have a guarantee of 25 to 30 years because of the robots' (accurate) production,†he added.
The factory is situated near the Iraq-Kuwait border as well as near the port of Umm Qasr for a future plan of both meeting local demand and exporting to neighbouring countries.
