- Story Text: U.S. Secretary of Treasury Janet Yellen met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Hanoi on Thursday (July 20) to strengthen the ties with the South East Asia nation.
Yellen's visit is expected to focus on finding measures to enhance Vietnam’s financial and macroeconomic resilience, as well as the country’s transition to clean energy.
Her trip is part of a series of high-profile exchanges between the two countries which are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their existing formal comprehensive partnership this year.
U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken visited Vietnam in April, weeks after a call between U.S. President Joe Biden and the head of Vietnam's ruling Communist party Nguyen Phu Trong. Last month, U.S. aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan made a port call in Vietnam's central city of Danang.
