- Story Text: Volunteers from the Red Crescent and an Algerian water company distributed cold water to people on the streets of Algiers on Wednesday (July 19) as a strong heatwave hit the country.
The three-day initiative aims to reduce the risk of mild dehydration for citizens, and mitigate the effects of high temperatures, especially for people exposed to the sun.
Volunteers distributed tens of thousands of water bottles, as well as some 700 hats to citizens, in particularly to the elderly and children.
The heatwave is expected to continue affecting several areas of Algeria until Thursday (July 20) with temperature reaching 45 degrees Celsius (113 Fahrenheit), according to special weather report (BMS) issued by the National Office of Meteorology (ONM).
