- Story Text: Rights group Amnesty International reported on Thursday (August 3) that extensive war crimes were being committed in Sudan, with civilians killed in both deliberate and indiscriminate attacks.
They found that homes, hospitals, and even safe houses have suffered deadly attacks in the ongoing violence.
Its Sudan researchers say that many women and girls have also been subjected to sexual violence by members of the warring parties.
They documented cases of girls as young as twelve being raped in Darfur and Khartoum and called on the UN and other regional bodies to bring perpetrators of such crimes to justice.
It's been more than three months since the conflict between Sudan's army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), erupted amid disputes over an internationally backed plan for a transition to civilian rule, has led to the displacement of more than 3 million people within Sudan and forced more than 900,000 to flee to neighboring states.
