- Story Text: World Scout Jamboree participants on Friday (August 4) said they were unfazed by the scorching temperatures as more heat-relief supplies arrived at the camp in southwest South Korea on Friday (August 4), after hundreds of the teenage participants fell ill this week due to unusual hot weather.
Additional water trucks, cooling buses, air-conditioned spaces, sports drinks, and medics, have arrived on scene in Buan for the 39,000 participants, most of them scouts aged between 14 and 18, according to government officials.
At least 600 people at the World Scout Jamboree, which kicked off in southwestern Buan on Tuesday (August 1), have so far been treated for heat-related ailments, according to the officials.
The event coincides with the highest level of heat warning by the government in four years, as temperatures in some parts of the country exceeded 38 degrees Celsius (100.4 Fahrenheit) this week.
