- Story Text: Pope Francis heard on Friday (August 4) morning the confessions of three young people, from Spain, Italy and Guatemala, in one of the parks that is hosting the festival.
The event is taking place in the shadow of Portugal's version of the Church's global sex abuse crisis, following the publication of a report six months ago that said at least 4,815
minors had been sexually abused by clergy over seven decades.
Amelia Grantham, a 28-year-old from Birmingham, England, who was one of the people lined up to have her confession heard by a priest, said it was important for the Church to admit its scandals.
