- Story Text: Jamie Lee Curtis spoke out about the Hollywood actors strike on Thursday (August 3) saying "I hope I can be Switzerland in all this".
Lee Curtis spoke to Reuters following a Project Angel Food charity event, for which she is honorary chair.
The Oscar-winning actor said " I hope that both sides see the value of continuing conversation, the issues are real and my hope is that no-one will be happy with a settlement. But we will get back to work and that’s just the nature of a settlement that both sides aren’t happy, so we’re all going to have to give up something to get something and I hope that what we get to do ultimately is to continue our work.â€
'Abbott Elementary' actor Sheryl Lee Ralph also attended the event as a trustee.
On the strikes, she said “It’s hard right now, strikes are difficult, no matter what side you are on, but it’s going to be alright. Because what? Is it going to fail? I don’t think so. But can it better than it is right now? Absolutely and that’s what we’re aiming for. That’s what we’re aiming for and I know it’s going to happen. I know it’s going to happen because it can’t get worse.â€
The actors appeared at the official launch of Project Angel Food’s expansion to a second location.
The organization was founded in 1989 by Marianne Williamson to provide meals for people suffering from HIV and AIDS. Now, it also provides for people with life-threatening illness and the chronically ill.
Lee Ralph wept as she recalled the early days during the AIDS pandemic.
She later said “I want people to know that that happened around the world and people’s response was not one of love, it was one of hatred and my friends were good people, they were kind people, they were loving human beings who to this day still deserve more, just because they’re human beings. That’s what was going through my mind.â€
Williamson took to the stage and said it was not “good news†that the organization has expanded so much, saying “There should not be at this point so many poor people in this city. There should not be so many people hungry in America, there should not be so many people in the richest country in the world who need the services of a Project Angel Food.â€
