- Story Text:South Africa fans were joyous on Wednesday night (August 2) in Wellington after they witnessed history as their team beat Italy 3-2 to qualify for the Women's World Cup knockout stages for the first time ever.
What's more this was South Africa's first ever victory at a Women's World Cup and it was sealed when Thembi Kgatlana scored a last-gasp winner to send them through to the last 16.
The result meant Italy, who reached the quarter-finals in 2019, were knocked out the tournament.
Fans were singing and dancing outside the Wellington Regional Stadium as they looked forward to the prospect of playing the Netherlands in Sydney on Sunday (August 6).
