So, having 37 degrees (Celsius) in an austral winter is extraordinary. It’s an anomaly, temperatures of almost 15 degrees over their regular values. And unfortunately, it’s not a local problem, but global.†DRONE VIEW OF CITY, SNOW-CAPPED MOUNTAINS IN BACKGROUND (MUTE) DRONE VIEW OF VEHICLES ON ROAD (MUTE) PEOPLE AT PEDESTRIAN CROSSING PEOPLE WALKING IN STREET (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) CLIMATOLOGIST FROM UNIVERSITY OF SANTIAGO, RAUL CORDERO, SAYING: “Globally speaking, July was the warmest month ever reported. And August hasn’t started particularly well. The warmest month of the year globally is always July. In August, temperatures start to decline mightily. It could be the absolute fall in values, but the most probable is that in relative terms, August ends up being the warmest month ever reported. This year is on the way to becoming one of the three warmest years ever reported. And there is 50% of probability it will end up being the warmest year ever reported on the planet.†PEOPLE WALKING IN STREET (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) JUICES STREET SELLER, LEONEL CORTES, SAYING: “The climate has changed. We expect a lot of water at this point of the year, but with climate change, the heat has been strong.†DRONE VIEW OF PERSON WEARING SHORTS ON BRIDGE PEOPLE WALKING IN STREET WEARING SHORTS (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) UNIVERSITY STUDENT, MAXIMILIANO, SAYING: “Very hot. In countries such as Chile, the provision of water during the dry season – Spring and Summer – rely on this natural storage that’s the snowy mountain range. It’s a natural reservoir that provides water to communities and big cities in the central region of Chile.†VARIOUS OF DRONE VIEWS OF MAPOCHO RIVER IN CITY (MUTE) DRONE VIEW OF PERSON WALKING ON FOOTBRIDGE (MUTE) DRONE VIEW OF MAPOCHO RIVER NEXT TO ROAD IN CITY (MUTE)

Officials have reported record heat wave temperatures in the country's north and central regions of over 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit).
