- Story Text:A handful of protesters and supporters of former U.S. president Donald Trump lingered around the district court in Washington, D.C. on Thursday (August 3) carrying posters and signs as they awaited his arrival to face election conspiracy charges. They were outnumbered by waiting journalists and a large presence of police officers who had cordoned off access to the area.
A vehicle with a U.S. flag and a Gadsden flag bearing the words, 'Dont Tread on Me', zipped past television cameras while outside the courthouse a small group of protesters wearing bright green t-shirts spelt out the word 'Justice' with cardboard alphabets and posed for journalists.
Another Trump protester at the courthouse carried a poster that read, 'Save Our Democracy' with an image of Trump's hair blowing in the wind to reveal a swastika on his head.
Trump, the front-runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, is scheduled to appear at the courthouse at 4 p.m. ET (2000 GMT) in Washington, D.C., half a mile (1 km) from the U.S. Capitol, the building his supporters stormed on Jan. 6, 2021, to try to stop Congress from certifying his defeat.
