- Story Text: Indigenous people from all over Mexico descended to the capital to display their eye-catching folklore in a parade on Wednesday (August 9) to mark the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples.
Dancers flaunted colourful and extravagant costumes and danced in a parade in Mexico City that sought to raise awareness of the cultural diversity nesting in the country.
Onlookers at Reforma Avenue enjoyed performances such as the 'Dance of the Devils', which originated from Mexico's south, to symbolise the escape of African slaves from the Spanish.
In Mexico, there are 23.2 million self-described indigenous people, according to data from the country's census bureau from 2020.
