- Story Text: Spanish soccer fans gathered on Saturday (September 16) near Madrid to watch the current champions Barca women in their opening match against Madrid CFF after the unions and Liga F reached an agreement over minimum wages to end the strike.
Mainly wearing the shirts of stars Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmati, hundreds queued to enter the stadium in Fuenlabrada, in southern Madrid, supporting their players both with the past strike and their demands as a national squad.
A group of 39 players from Spain, including most of the 23 Women's World Cup-winning squad, said on Friday (September 15) they wanted further changes at the Spanish soccer federation and that the resignation of chief Luis Rubiales and the replacement of the team's manager was not enough.
The players demanded further federation changes but did not clarify whether they would continue with a boycott on playing for the national team.
