One of the world's most photographed and iconic landmarks, the Sydney Opera House, will turn 50 on October 20, 2023.
Taking 14 years to complete on the site of an old tram shed on Sydney Harbour, the architectural marvel - designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon - was opened by Britain's Queen Elizabeth II in 1973.
Now recognised an an emblem and symbol of Australia, it was UNESCO listed in 2007 and has hosted world class performances inside and outside the venue.
