- Story Text: Spain's Princess of Asturias, Leonor, marked her 18th birthday on Tuesday (October 31) by swearing allegiance to the country's constitution before lawmakers in parliament.
Leonor's constitutional position as heir to the throne means that if her father, King Felipe, were to step down she would become Spain's queen.
As Felipe himself did in 1986, Leonor swore to carry out her duties, uphold the constitution and pledged loyalty to her father as the nation's sovereign.
