- Story Text: Mexican rockers Mana are hitting the road to Europe this summer with their 'Mexico Lindo Y Querido' tour, after a six-year absence from the continent.
The multi-Grammy and Latin Grammy-winning superstars will be playing nine dates in June and July across Spain, and their first ever U.K. show at London's legendary OVO Arena Wembley.
“We’re freaking out... I mean it is a dream come true (to play in London)," drummer Alex Ganzalez, told Reuters in Los Angeles on Tuesday (November 28), at a media event to announce the tour.
"We grew up listening to so many bands from England... I mean just the history of England, musically speaking, for us it is a dream come true and especially to be playing the in that arena. It’s an honor." he said.
Mana singer Fher Olvera said he would daydream about being in England as a child and that the idea of playing in the British capital always seemed like a "fantasy." He said the band jumped at the opportunity to play in London when it was suggested by their manager.
With Spanish language artists topping the charts and Reggaeton conquering the world, would Mana ever be tempted to experiment with genre?
“Reggaeton is very repetitive, it’s too much, too much, too much," said Olvera.
"The lyrics of Reggaeton, and I’m not saying this about all of them, but the majority are, literally speaking, quite poor. They’re misogynistic and violent... we like that music has different atmospheres and that can take you to other places," he added.
From Guadalajara, Mexico, Mana has a loyal fan base in the U.S. and around the world. They have always been vocal about denouncing violence and corruption in their home country and in 2016, they toured the U.S. calling on Latinos to vote in the wake of unfavorable comments about Mexicans by then Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Mana have won four Grammy Awards and eight Latin Grammy Awards and sold more than 40 million records.
