- Story Text:Ice-swimming enthusiasts in the Siberian city of Omsk on Sunday (December 3) welcomed winter with the season's first freezing dip.
Dozens of locals, who call themselves 'walruses,' gathered at the bank of the Irtysh River to participate in an amateur race or simply to brave the three-degree Celsius waters (37.4 degrees Fahrenheit), with the air temperature hovering around zero degree Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit).
Many describe the experience as life-changing for the better.
The youngest member of the local 'walruses' club, 19-year-old Viktor, also celebrated the new season by setting his personal record of staying in the water for five straight minutes.
The average temperature for December in Omsk is minus 20 degrees Celsius (minus 4 degrees Fahrenheit). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
