- Story Text: Disney has transformed the popular book series “Percy Jackson & the Olympians” into a series for its streaming platform.
The eight-episode show will launch on December 20th on Disney + with young actor Walker Scobell in the leading role.
Scobell said unlike other projects he's worked on, he was proud of his work in the series when watching it back.
The show is centered around a 12-year-old boy named Percy Jackson who is trying to return Zeus’ master bolt and prevent a war all while dodging monsters.
Through the adventure, Percy is juggling the fear of never seeing his mother again and learning about self-acceptance, something actress Suzanne Cryer and her niece, Nora Stern is familiar with.
“When you have ADD and you have dyslexia, people can't see your differences. You have a handicap but that you can't see. And so, you need special accommodations and you feel like you are less than. But I think, Rick, because he's a dad and a teacher, he wanted to make his kid feel that his differences made him special and stronger,” added Cryer.
Author and co-creator Rick Riordan called the premiere a “pinch me moment.”
“This is something that we've been working on for four years now to bring this series out and to do it well and to honor the story, to honor the fans and to make it something that general viewers will also just love, I hope. So, yes, it is a pinch me moment.”
Riordan’s first two books in the 5 book series were turned into films.
