A blast at a solar explosives factory killed at least nine people in India's western Nagpur city on Sunday (December 17).
The blast occurred in the morning during the routine sieving of raw materials for explosives, said Ashish Srivastava, a senior manager with the company.
The building was evacuated after the incident and the victims were moved to a nearby hospital, he added.
A protest erupted outside the factory where locals, including family members and acquaintances of the victims, chanted slogans against Solar Industries, and heavy security was deployed to control the crowd.
Industrial accidents are common in India. They are often blamed on people flouting safety norms and lax inspection by government officials. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
