- Story Text: New York City's Mayor Eric Adams issued an Executive Order Wednesday (December 27), which requires charter bus companies transporting migrants to give a 32 hour notice before arriving into New York City.
The announcement came during a press conference with Chicago, Illinois Mayor Brandon Johnson and Denver, Colorado Mayor Mike Johnston who each demanded more federal support for the influx of migrants into their cities.
"The federal government must take responsibility and lead on this humanitarian crisis instead of leaving it for cities and localities to handle,” Mayor Adams said during the press conference.
As part of the Executive Order, New York City is also requiring that additional information on the population being transported be provided before arrival. Chartered buses will also be required to drop passengers off at a designated location during specific hours.
Top U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Homeland Security chief Alejandro Mayorkas, visited Mexico on Wednesday (December 27) as the Mexican government pledged to help the United States cope with record numbers of people trying to reach the border.
