  • Story Text: The nominees for best supporting actress at the 85th Annual Academy Awards are Amy Adams, Sally Field, Anne Hathaway, Helen Hunt, and Jacki Weaver.
    In "The Master," Amy Adams portrays the determined wife of the controversial founder of a group known as The Cause. This is the fourth Academy Award nomination for Adams, 38. She was previously nominated three times for best supporting actress for "Junebug" (2005), "Doubt" (2008), and "The Fighter" (2010).
    In "Lincoln," Sally Field portrays Mary Todd Lincoln, the wife of the sixteenth president and a grieving mother who fears for the safety of her family. This is the third Academy Award nomination for Field, 66, and she has taken home two best actress Oscars, for "Norma Rae" (1979), and "Places in the Heart" (1984).
    In "Les Mis�ables," a film version of one of Broadway's most popular musicals, Anne Hathaway plays Fantine, a young mother who loses her job in a factory and struggles to find money to support her daughter. This is the second Academy Award nomination for Hathaway, 30. She was previously nominated for lead actress in 2008's "Rachel Getting Married," and is the front runner to take home the Oscar this year, having swept all the major awards this season.
    In "The Sessions," Helen Hunt plays a sex surrogate who is hired by a polio survivor to help him lose his virginity. This is the second Academy Award nomination for Hunt, 49, having previously won a best actress Oscar for 1997's "As Good as it Gets"
    In "Silver Linings Playbook," Jacki Weaver plays the mother of a man undergoing treatment in a psychiatric facility who agrees to vouch for his behaviour upon his release. This is the second Academy Award nomination in the supporting category for the 65-year-old Australian actress, with her first nod for 2010's "Animal Kingdom."
    The 85th Annual Academy Awards will be handed out in a live telecast ceremony from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, February 24th.
