  • Story Text: Facebook, the social media platform owned by parent company Meta, will turn 20 years old on Sunday (February 4).
    The company, whose platform was originally made exclusively for university students but was later expanded to the general public, was founded by Mark Zuckerberg on February 4, 2004.
    Zuckerberg led a rebrand in October 2021 when the company became known as Meta. The move was an effort to focus on building the "metaverse," a shared virtual environment that the company bets will be the successor to the mobile internet. Its social media service continued to be called Facebook.
