- Story Text: After being evacuated from war-torn Gaza, ten injured Palestinian children and their guardians will be transported to Italy on Friday (February 9) to receive hospital treatment in Rome.
The evacuated patients received initial treatment at the Italian hospital in Cairo, and were welcomed by the Italian Ambassador to Egypt Michele Quaroni along with the Egyptian health ministry delegation and members of the Egyptian Red Crescent.
“These people will have the opportunity to ask for international protection in Italy and as soon as they wish, want and can, they can go back or stay in Italy,” said Nicola Minasi, head of crisis unit at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to a statement from the Italian Defense Ministry, Italy will provide hospital treatment for 100 Palestinian children from Gaza after transporting them by plane and ship from al-Arish, 50 km from the Rafah crossing into Gaza, which has become the international coordination center for humanitarian aid.
The first group of injured Palestinian children from Gaza arrived in Rome for treatment on Monday (January 29), aboard the military vessel Vulcano.
A total of 27,947 Palestinians have been killed and 67,459 have been injured in Israeli strikes on Gaza since Oct. 7, the Gaza health ministry said in a statement on Friday.
