"Past Lives" director Celine Song and actor Teo Yoo met moviegoers in Seoul on Wednesday (February 28) to promote their Oscar-nominated movie ahead of its official release in South Korean cinemas on March 6.
Korean-Canadian director Song said her life as an immigrant inspired the film. Specifically, she drew on a conversation between her friend visiting from South Korea and her husband at a bar in New York, she told a news conference earlier in the day.
At a special screening in Seoul, Song and Yoo greeted South Korean movie fans and took photos with them.
The film, which centers on two old friends, Nora and Hae Sung, who reunite in New York decades after having parted ways as children in South Korea, has drawn critical acclaim since its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival last year. It got a best picture nomination for this year's Academy Awards, competing against the likes of "Oppenheimer" and "Anatomy Of A Fall" as well as a nod for best original screenplay.
