- Story Text: Former President Donald Trump and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley's battle for the Republican presidential nomination heads to South Carolina on Saturday (February 24), when the Southern state hosts the party's third major competitive contest of the primary season.
As the day gets closer, women voters are voicing their concerns and priorities, highlighting issues that matter most to them in the political landscape.
Lisa Carstarphen, a 58-year-old attorney, expressed skepticism about Haley's stance on women’s reproductive rights. She leans towards Joe Biden as a candidate, who she believes may better represent her views.
“Nikki Haley is a woman, although I don't necessarily think that she properly represents women's issues,” she said.
Gabrielle Daniels, a 30-year-old nurse, said she would like to see a woman president.
“I really just want to see, I really want to see what would happen if a woman ran our country, considering that men have been running our country for, since the beginning,” she said.
Brelyn Parker, a 26-year-old customer service representative, remains undecided. “And it is from lack of faith in the system,” she said.
South Carolina does not have party registration, so its primaries are "open." Registered voters are free to participate in the Republican contest, as long as they skip the Democratic primary, and vice versa.
Early in-person voting for the Republican primary began on Feb. 12.
