It also feels… I’m so proud that I’ve worked on a film that’s got such a message. It feels great that the film is going to be put to a higher platform. More people are going to know about what this film is about." (SOUNDBITE) (English) "THE ZONE OF INTEREST" SOUND DESIGNER, JOHNNIE BURN, SAYING: “Through research, we learned about what happened in Auschwitz, and through exploration, we understood that we didn’t want to show the visual horror of the atrocities and we knew that we wanted to do it in sound only, so yeah, it was a learning process." (REPORTER ASKING OFF-CAMERA IF SHE HAD A GOOD TIME) Oh yeah, I had a great time and we're so happy for Cord (Jefferson, winner of best adapted screenplay for 'American Fiction') you know, he got his Oscar and you know what, we're the little movie that could, and I think we did pretty well." Such a, a little surreal, but it's such an honor to be here and to have this award. It's great. (ON SCORING:) One of my, the best thing about working with Chris (Nolan, director of 'Oppenheimer') is how much time he gives you and how he understands that you need to experiment. And so we have all that time before we start shooting to really experiment and write a lot of music and listen to it together." - Story Text: Winning an Oscar for best sound feels "outrageous, it feels remarkable," and "just breathtaking," "The Zone of Interest" sound engineer Tarn Willers told Reuters at the Vanity Fair Oscars party on Sunday night (March 10).
Sharing the award with Willers is sound designer Johnnie Burn, who explained the integral part that sound played in the movie, about the commandant of Auschwitz and his family living next to the Nazi death camp.
“Through research, we learned about what happened in Auschwitz, and through exploration, we understood that we didn’t want to show the visual horror of the atrocities and we knew that we wanted to do it in sound only," Burns said.
Ludwig Goransson, composer and winner of best original score for "Oppenheimer", said his win felt "incredible" and "a little surreal".
He gave credit to Christopher Nolan, who won best director and best picture for the historical drama about the making of the atomic bomb.
"The best thing about working with Chris (Nolan) is how much time he gives you and how he understands that you need to experiment," Goransson said.
"And so we have all that time before we start shooting to really experiment and write a lot of music and listen to it together."
Composer Laura Karpman, who was nominated for best original score for "American Fiction", said: “We didn't win, but we're celebrating anyway, what the heck!"
"I had a great time and we're so happy for Cord (Jefferson, winner of best adapted screenplay for 'American Fiction')," she said.
"You know what, we're the little movie that could, and I think we did pretty well."
