- Story Text: Bollywood actors and the Sri Lankan cricket squad play a charity cricket match ahead of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards 2010 in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo.
A charity cricket match was played between Bollywood actors and Sri Lankan cricket squad on Friday (June 04) as part of the ongoing International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards extravaganza in Colombo.
It was the second day of the three-day IIFA extravaganza. The charity match was to raise money for an initiative that will build a hundred homes for the war-affected in Jaffna region.
The crowd seemed mesmerized and cheered out loud for the Bollywood stars.
Mandira Bedi, who hosted the match along with two other actors, said that she was looking forward to watch actor and director Mahesh Manjrekar play the match as she has done a film with him related to cricket.
"The best cricketer…from Bollywood… I have seen Mahesh Manjrekar play and I also did a movie with him and he can hit some really big sixes so I am expecting good things out of him and of course Sunil Shetty is brilliant. (Q: what about Salman?) Well…Salman… I am not sure. I haven't seen him playing cricket. I don't know," said Bedi.
Meanwhile, bollywood actor Aftab Shivdasani expressed his anguish over not being able to play the match because of his hand injury.
"This would be a bad news for our Bollywood team that I won't be able to play with them because of my hand injury but will definitely wish them luck for the match," said Aftab Shivdasani.
The Sri Lankan cricketers won the match beating both IIFA teams, led by actors Hrithik Roshan and Suneil Shetty.
The IIFA Awards event in Colombo has invited wrath of the Tamil groups in India.
Many actors of Tamilian movies from Chennai have boycotted the event. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
