Summary:The Elysee Palace in Paris and arriving for talks with French President Pompidou on August 27 1969, was Upper Volta President Sangoule Lamizana. The talks centred on French aid for its former colony, one of the poorest nations on earth. Lamizana took control of it in 1966 in a military coup. His government did much to clean away the corruption which had formerly dogged the nation, but Upper Volta remained poor.
