Summary:September 3 1969 Ho Chi Minh, veteran leader of North Vietnam and one of the most influential communist leaders in the world, died at the age of 79. Born in Vietnam, Ho began agitating against French rule as soon as he left school. In his youth, he travelled widely and later studied in Moscow. In 1945, he proclaimed the republic of Vietnam and remained its leader until his death.
