- Story Text: AS INTERNATIONAL PROTEST MOUNTS OVER THE MILITARY INTERVENTION OF RUSSIA AND HER WARSAW PACT COUNTRIES IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA, A MASS OF TANZANIANS MARCHED ON THE SOVIET EMBASSY IN DAR ES SALAAM YESTERDAY (FRIDAY) TO ADD THEIR DISAPPROVAL.
LATER THE DEMONSTRATORS MARCHED TO THE CZECH EMBASSY TO READ A LETTER OF SYMPATHY.
THOUSANDS OF DEMONSTRATORS ARMED WITH ANTI-SOVIET AND PRO-CZECH BANNERS MARCHED ON THE SOVIET EMBASSY. THERE THEY CHANTED SLOGANS AND PELTED THE BUILDING WITH ROTTEN EGGS. FRUIT AND RUSSIAN LITERATURE.
LEADERS OF THE PROCESSION SHOUTED THROUGH LOUDSPEAKERS THAT THE MILITARY INVASION OF CZECHOSLOVAKIA WAS A FLAGRANT VIOLATION OF THE SOVEREIGNTY AND NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE OF THE CZECH PEOPLE.
AFTERWARDS THE MARCHERS MOVED ON TO THE CZECH EMBASSY. THERE THE CZECH AMBASSADOR RECEIVED A FORMAL MESSAGE OF SYMPATHY, TO WHICH HE REPLIED WARMLY.
TANZANIA IS THE FIRST AFRICAN COUNTRY TO STAGE A PUBLIC PROTEST AGAINST WARSAW PACT COUNTRIES' INTERVENTION IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA.
