- Story Text: Argentina expects the Spanish government to publicly apologise for statements made by several officials against the country's president, Javier Milei, his spokesperson Manuel Adorni said on Monday (May 20).
At a press conference, Adorni denied that there is a diplomatic rift with Spain but expects an apology from Madrid for "insults, insults and disqualifications" against Milei.
"They are obviously confused," Adorni told reporters. "We would like them to reflect and apologise. It has nothing to do with diplomatic issues; it's a matter between people," the official said.
The conflict escalated over the weekend when Spain recalled its ambassador to Buenos Aires for consultations after Milei made derogatory comments about Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez' wife during a far-right meeting in Madrid.
