- Story Text: A fancy vivid yellow diamond, described as one of the largest in the world, could fetch more than $7 million (6.48 million euros) when it goes under the hammer in Geneva, auction house Sotheby's said on Monday (May 13).
Mined most likely over 100 years ago in South Africa, “the Allnatt” weighs 101.29 carats and is mounted as a Cartier brooch. It’s the first time in 30 years it will appear in an auction.
The head of magnificent jewels at Sotheby’s, Catharine Becket, said the stone was repolished 20 years ago, losing a carat but gaining in degree of colour saturation.
Sotheby’s is also presenting a 37-carat internally flawless diamond, which was estimated between $1.6 million and $2.6 million (1.48 million and 2.4 million euros).
The auction will take place on Tuesday (May 14) at the Mandarin Hotel in Geneva.
