- Story Text:A two-minute-long siren blared across Israel on Monday (May 13), bringing everyone to pause and remember fallen soldiers and civilian victims of hostilities.
Israeli Prime Minister led military and government officials in marking Memorial Day at Jerusalem's Mount Herzl cemetery.
In recent months, Israelis have became familiar with the sound of blaring sirens, rushing them to shelter from rocket attacks launched in the Gaza Strip and in Lebanon.
The war that started with an Oct. 7 attack by Hamas into southern Israel is heading into its eight month with Israeli forces stepping up attacks on Gaza's Jabalia camp and Rafah.
Israel says 620 soldiers have been killed in the fighting, more than half of them during the initial Hamas assault that killed some 1,200, mostly civilians, and left more than 250 captive by the Islamic group that rules Gaza.
The death toll in Israel's military operation in Gaza has now passed at least 35,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza's health ministry.
