- Story Text: Lithuanian army servicemen and local police units set up temporary military checkpoints on the streets of the capital Vilnius on Tuesday (May 7) and Wednesday (May 8) to test readiness and workflow during curfew.
Soldiers checked cars in Vilnius and in the second largest Lithuanian city Kaunas as part of the exercise, called Thunder Bastion 24.
"We train for a time when Lithuania would undergo hybrid attack and curfew would be announced," said Lukas Vaiciulis, Training Specialist of Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union 10th Regiment.
The exercises are designed to "train all elements of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and public institutions to transition from peace to wartime," the military said on their website.
The exercise is part of wider military drills called Thunder Strike, which runs through Friday (May 10).
According to the Lithuanian Armed Forces, call-out notices are being sent to 10,000 active reservists and more than 4,000 active duty servicemembers will take part in the wider exercises.
