Users and supporters of legalising cannabis gathered in Mexico city on Saturday (April 20), donning marijuana-inspired garments and smoking joints, as they demanded the end of prohibition.
Pot-smoking enthusiasts were asking for full legalisation and a clear regulation for safe consumption.
Cannabis sits in a legal gray area in Mexico - and much of its production is still tied to criminal organizations.
In 2021, Mexico's lower house of Congress approved a bill that would decriminalize cannabis. In 2022, the Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional to penalise the possession of more than five grams (0.17 oz) of marijuana for personal use. The Mexican Senate has yet to establish rules for cannabis regulation.
