- Summary: CAPRI, ITALY (APRIL 19, 2024) (REUTERS) VARIOUS OF ITALIAN FOREIGN MINISTER, ANTONIO TAJANI ARRIVING FOR PRESS CONFERENCE PRESS CONFERENCE IN PROGRESS (SOUNDBITE) (Italian) ITALIAN FOREIGN MINISTER, ANTONIO TAJANI, SAYING: ''I immediately wanted there to be a clear message from the entire G7. The political objective of the G7 is called de-escalation. We have been working, we are working and we will continue to work, to be active players for de-escalation in the whole Middle East area.'' PRESS CONFERENCE IN PROGRESS (SOUNDBITE) (Italian) ITALIAN FOREIGN MINISTER, ANTONIO TAJANI, SAYING: ''We call on Iran to end its relationship with Hamas and not to support Hezbollah. We do not rule out the possibility of sanctions and other measures in response to what has happened, but also in what could happen with destabilising actions.'' PRESS CONFERENCE IN PROGRESS (SOUNDBITE) (Italian) ITALIAN FOREIGN MINISTER, ANTONIO TAJANI, SAYING: ‘’(Eds note: On Israel's notice received from the U.S.) I think it is already known, the U.S. was informed at the last minute, but there was no sharing by the U.S., it was mere information. But I think that what happened was also the result of the work of the G7.'' PRESS CONFERENCE IN PROGRESS (SOUNDBITE) (Italian) ITALIAN FOREIGN MINISTER, ANTONIO TAJANI, SAYING: ''As for the interest, there is a legal basis for using it to support Ukraine. It is being considered whether there is a legal basis for using the seized assets. We are supporters of respect for the law and when we condemn Russia for what it did against Ukraine, we also want to be respectful of the law. So based on the assessments that will be made then the leaders will decide on the rest.' PRESS CONFERENCE IN PROGRESS (SOUNDBITE) (Italian) ITALIAN FOREIGN MINISTER, ANTONIO TAJANI, SAYING: ''We ask China, and this is also written in the document, not to supply dual-use material to the Russian Federation. So it is a clear message, because you can say they are not weapons, but they are dual-use material. Again, we gave a very clear and obvious message there, because China can do a lot to stop Russia's war against Ukraine.'' PRESS CONFERENCE IN PROGRESS

- Story Text:Foreign ministers from the Group of Seven major powers said they would continue to work to prevent the conflict between Israel and Iran escalating, after reports of an Israeli attack on Iran.
"In light of reports of strikes on April 19th, we urge all parties to work to prevent further escalation. The G7 will continue to work to this end," said a statement issued by the ministers on Friday (April 19) at the end of a three-day summit on the island of Capri.
Speaking at the end of a meeting of G7 foreign ministers, Tajani also said the G7 powers are looking to see if they can use frozen Russian assets held in the West and not just the interest from the funds.
