- Story Text: Cuban animal rights protectors held the traditional pilgrimage of the Caribbean country's day of the dog on Sunday (April 14), demanding stricter legislation to combat animal cruelty.
Accompanied by their pets, the activists walked through Havana's Colon Cemetery with flowers and posters and gathered at the tomb of the American philanthropist Jeannette Ryder, an animal rights activist who died on April 12, 1931, to pay tribute to her work.
According to a local media the first dog day pilgrimage to Ryder's tomb was held in April 2019
On Sunday participants demanded legal reforms to address the alarming cases of animal mistreatment prevalent across the island nation and enact tougher measures to safeguard the welfare of animals.
People took selfies with their pets in the cemetery after marching there carrying banners with their demands on.
