- Story Text: Municipal workers in Spain started selling up polling stations and putting up signs on Friday (June 7) ahead of the 2024 European parliamentary election this weekend.
Spanish citizens will vote for 61 members of the European Parliament (MEP) on Sunday (June 9) when voting stations open at 9:00 a.m. (0700 GMT).
According to polls published in local media, Spain's main opposition, the conservative People's Party (PP) could get the most votes and outperform the Socialist Party of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
It is the ninth time such an election is taking place in Spain since the country joined the European Union in 1986. Polls in mainland Spain will close at 8:00 p.m. (1800 GMT).
