    The Olympic torch made a special appearance at Paris' traditional Bastille Day parade on Sunday (July 14), before it tours around the French capital for the torch relay.
    It was carried by soldier and Olympic gold medallist in eventing, Colonel Thibaut Vallette, on horseback.
    Dozens of middle-school pupils sporting the Olympic colours paraded with him, and Vallette passed on the flame to a young volunteer, in front of French President Emmanuel Macron and top government officials.
    The Olympic torch is set to visit Paris' famous landmarks throughout Sunday and Monday (July 15) during the relay.
    The military parade featured aircraft from France's fleet, regiments from the army, marines and civil security including rescue dogs, and military bands.
    The celebrations were held at nearby Foch Avenue this year, as Champs Elysees was all geared up for the Olympic torch relay later on Sunday.
    Bastille Day commemorates the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789, one of the key events of the French Revolution. The day is a national holiday in France.
